AmealPeptide® Product Facts

What is AmealPeptide®?
AmealPeptide® is derived from the milk protein casein, and consists of two tripeptides -- Valine-Proline-Proline (VPP) and Isoleucine-Proline-Proline (IPP) -- that has been shown to have angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory characteristics. These peptide sequences exist naturally in casein. However, they are not released in the gut by the action of digestive enzymes. They are released by propriety fermentation and enzymatic processes developed by Calpis Co., Ltd.

How does AmealPeptide® work?
Elevated blood pressure can be caused by various factors, one of which is a constriction of blood vessels triggered by angiotensin II. In the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) reaction, angiotensin I is converted to angiotensin II, which causes blood vessels to constrict, or narrow, raising blood pressure. AmealPeptide® acts as a natural blocker of this reaction and helps control these biochemical reactions that cause the constriction of blood vessels. The reduced constriction helps blood to flow more freely, which in turn can help keep blood pressure in a healthier range. ACE inhibitors are widely used for the treatment of hypertension.

What are the benefits of AmealPeptide®?
AmealPeptide® has been evaluated in 13 published, scientific clinical studies, which have shown that it lowers elevated blood pressure and maintains it at healthier levels without the side effects of prescription drugs. Clinical tests have shown a significant lowering of both systolic and diastolic blood pressure after three to four weeks when AmealPeptide® is taken on a daily basis. The efficacy of AmealPeptide® has been studied in subjects with high-normal blood pressure (SBP 130 to 139 mmHg, DBP 85 to 90 mmHg) and mild-moderate hypertension (SBP 140 to 180 mmHg, DBP 90 to 105 mmHg).

Is AmealPeptide® an approved drug?
AmealPeptide® is not a drug. Rather, it is a branded ingredient name for a combination of two tripeptides derived from nonfat milk. Additionally, AmealPeptide® received GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) approval from the FDA in May 2006 confirming its safety related to use in the food supply.

What is AmealPeptide® indicated for?
AmealPeptide® is indicated for the promotion and maintenance of healthy blood pressure. Although AmealPeptide® shows more effect on hypertensive patients, it is also effective for people with prehypertension.

Will AmealPeptide® interact with prescription medications?
Anyone taking any medication should consult a doctor about potential product interactions. Clinical studies with AmealPeptide® have shown it to be safe; there are no interactions with other medications. In fact, 400 million doses of AmealPeptide® have been sold worldwide with no reports of side effects.

Does AmealPeptide® cause side effects?
A number of studies have been conducted with AmealPeptide®, but no significant side effects have been observed, even in large doses.

How is AmealPeptide® sold?
AmealPeptide® is the active component in ameal bp®, a dietary supplement.
ameal bp® is available as both chewable tablets and easy-to-swallow capsules, at CVS/pharmacy, Walgreen’s, Long’s Drugs, Duane Reade and many local pharmacies without a prescription. It is also available online at amazon.com and drugstore.com.

Can people with lactose intolerance or milk protein allergies use AmealPeptide®?
AmealPeptide® is derived from milk protein (casein). Thus, the remaining lactose is under detectable levels (less than 0.05%). Also, the milk protein is degraded during the production process to an undetectable level. Though there are no reports of any adverse effects with lactose intolerance or milk allergy, consultation with doctors is recommended.
